Patience

James 5:7-12

7Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

8Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

9Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

10Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

11Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

12But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

Worry never helps anybody but patience saves the day.

One of my greatest struggles as a man of God is waiting upon God. I want to reach people for God and I want to reach them NOW! However; I have learned to wait upon the Lord because the easy and expedient decision without God in it never works out. Whatever I do I want to do it to the glory of God!

We are going to go over when you should be patient, why you should be patient, and what you should do while you are waiting on the Lord. As you grow in your Christian life these will be very important lessons. The worst thing you can do is, in your zeal to share the word of God, display poor judgment to the lost. Christians are no better than anyone else we are just sinners saved by grace, but the world expects different of us, they want us to show them why they should trust in the Lord and we can do that by practicing patience.

When should I be patient? Every day there are things that will test your patience. As American’s we hate to be delayed and we are patient only when it is convenient, but if you live your life saying ‘I’ll be patient when it is easy’ you will never be patient. So when should you be patient? When circumstances are uncontrollable. In verse seven of James chapter five James is talking to Christians. God enables us to have patience. Have you ever been in a situation that was out of control and you tired to control it? The harder you try to control it the more out of control it gets. It is like trying to grab a greased up pig and you tell God ‘God, I got it’ but it slips away from you and you just end up smelling like a pig with no success. The only thing you can control is yourself and the way to have success is to yield to God. When people are unchangeable. This world needs to see Christians being good examples in times of suffering and affliction, it needs to see us being patient and yielding to God not just putting on a show. God is going to work it out, and when things are difficult you need to be patient all the more. Don’t be surprised when people resist the word of God at first but be patient and God will work in their heart. We need to be patient and we need God in the message. When problems are unexplainable. Job played in the Super Bowl of suffering and he won the championship of patience. In two days Job lost everything! He lost his friends, family, fortune, even his wife told him to curse God and die! but Job was patient. Job endured and he refused to give up. We can give 100 reasons why we can’t but the one reason why we can is God. God will always get the glory when situations seem impossible.

Why be patient? God is in control. (James 5:8) History is His story. God has a plan, God has a purpose, and Jesus is going to return. Situations may be out of our control but they are not out of God’s control. God rewards patience. (James5:11) At the end of Job’s story he got more than he had before. To get in the favor of God you need to be patient while he works out his plan. God is working things out. God’s delays are not God’s denials. (Philippians 2:3) It should be our desire to make God smile and patience pleases God.

What should I be doing while I am waiting on God? Wait expectantly. Have great dreams; dream that God is going to do great things through you. Your waiting is not in vain god will not bail on you. Wait quietly. We can complain or we can thank God for what we do have. So many times while people are waiting they complain about the wait, they complain about the line while they are standing in line. That is not patience. Don’t whine while you wait (Isaiah 49:23) you will never regret waiting on the Lord. Don’t complain, don’t grumble, don’t have self pity. Praise God and be thankful. It is hard to be quiet when you are frustrated but when you wake up to a difficult day thank God that you woke up at all. Don’t complain against God. Wait confidently. (Psalm 37:7) Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him.

Wealth and Wisdom

Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth eaten.

Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

James 5:1-6

Here James voices loudly about the misuse of wealth! He warns his people not to be fooled into thinking that money is everything! We have heard it over and over again “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

If we choose to live just to acquire material possessions, we will end up empty, lonely, and bitter because that which we are chasing gives us nothing in return. When we chase wealth, we end up robbing ourselves of the greater riches that God has to give us. And when it really comes down to it, a lot of the things we chase will soon rot, so why do we place our trust in it?

In saying this, wealth in itself is not wrong here, In fact there were many great believers in the Bible who were “wealthy”. Wealth can be a blessing from God if we use it as He intended and not allowing ourselves to pour our whole devotion to it! – (Proverbs 10:22)

But God makes it very clear that HE is in fact OPPOSED to the misuse and abuse of wealth. He wants us to use our wealth wisely – no matter how much or how little we have. Many would say these scriptures were solely written to the rich, and you may not consider yourself to be very “rich”. But if you live America, my friend, you are rich! I don’t say this to make us feel guilty but it is important that we understand that God has blessed us immensely. There are places in this world where people will walk half a day just to get dirty contaminated water. I think we, as Americans focus so much on what we don’t have that we lose sight of the things we do have! Something I would like for you to think about…If the only thing you had to show for your life, your love and devotion to God was your checkbook what would it look like? Would we see Christ?

Here I’ve listed a few ways we need to avoid in WRONG USES OF WEALTH:

           1. THE ACCUMULATION OF WEALTH: DON’T HOARD IT!

Money is not to be stockpiled. God gives you wealth to circulate it, meaning using it wisely for His kingdom and to further His cause. (Luke 12:16) when you accumulate just to get, you forget why God has given it to you.

            2. THE APPROPRIATION OF WEALTH: DON’T STEAL IT!

God is concerned with how you got what you have! There are a lot of ways to make money dishonestly, one way is to not pay your debts like James describes in verse 4. We should work hard for our wealth not try to cheat the system to get it. The Bible “a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches – Proverbs 22:1

            3. THE ALLOCATION OF WEALTH: DON’T WASTE IT!

One of the greatest temptations we must avoid with our wealth (regardless of the dollar amount) is to spend our money selfishly. We live in a day and age that reality TV is addictive due to the fact that we find a strange pleasure out of watching those people waste money! Be careful in throwing away your wealth on things that do not add to His kingdom and remember just because you can afford it- doesn’t mean you should have it!

            4. THE APPLICATION OF WEALTH: DON’T ABUSE IT!

The sad truth is many people today use their wealth to manipulate others and to get their way. When we receive wealth it offers a sense of influence, power, and authority. Why is it that we pay more attention to a rich person that speaks than a poor person? It is because our world is fallen and we associate influence with wealth. Someday we all will stand before God and explain how we used our influence, power, and authority; how we spent our wealth that God blessed us with.

In understanding those things we should avoid God also guides us into practicing the RIGHT USES OF WEALTH:

 RIGHT ACCUMULATION: SAVE IT FAITHFULLY!

PROVERBS 20:2 – So many times people live for just today, a wise person invests.

RIGHT APPROPRIATION: MAKE IT HONESTLY!

One of the things we struggle with in America is being honest. Earn your wealth honestly as long as it does not hurt your own health or your family.

RIGHT ALLOCATION: SPEND IT WISELY! – “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver” – Proverbs 16:16

 RIGHT APPLICATION: GIVE IT GENEROUSLY

In Matthew 6 it talks about laying out our treasures in heaven. God specifically calls us to give on the first day of the week (1 Corinthians 16:2) and to not give grudgingly God “loveth a cheerful giver.” (2 Corithinans 9:7)

If you’re struggling with managing money wisely it is usually an insight of a deeper problem, and it may be that you are trying to live without God’s guidance and putting other things before the spiritual things in your life. Let God manage your life, in every way and give it solely over to Him. You can’t out give God. The solution to tough financial situations is not to stop giving but to put Him first and He will honor that. Jesus wants you to live an abundant life! -Matthew 6:21-34

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21) When you look at your treasures is your heart where you thought it was? where is your time, talent, and treasure going? Where would you like it to be?

YOUR FUTURE IS NOW

James 4:13-17

13Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

15For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

16But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

17Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

What is your life? What are the positives? What things do you wish you could take away? Your future is right now! You can change right now.

Three common mistakes to avoid:

1. PLANNING WITHOUT GOD. Just because something seems right it does not mean God is in it. You can work out every detail but you cannot succeed without God’s blessing. Often times a Christian will get an idea than go to the planning stage than start to put it into action and assume God is in it. Than the plan begins to fail and we blame God, but it is going wrong because of the attitude of self sufficiency. What you can accomplish without God is not of God. The bible teaches planning but it tells us to plan WITH God. Often times we get an idea and assume it is from God but the bible tells us to wait upon the Lord. The future God has planned for you cannot be a reality if you do not give him free rein over your life. Live your life as if it is ALL His. Planning without God is practical atheism. Don’t ask God to bless your plan, ask Him to give you His plan. There are three possible reactions to God’s will you can make reference to it, show difference to it, or show preference to it. We should make plans counting on God to direct us through the plans. (Proverbs 16:9)

2. PRESUMING ABOUT TOMORROW. Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. (James 4:14) Be humble when God works through you. When we fail we tend to blame God but when we succeed we take the credit. Give God the glory! It is all God every good gift cometh down from the father. Life is unpredictable. None of us know what tomorrow will bring. Make plans on what God leads you to do. Since life is unpredictable you must trust God every day. Life is brief. Our future is now. You are NOT going to live forever. If you continually put off what you are going to do for God you will never do it. You are a heartbeat away from eternity (Isaiah 56:12. Proverbs 27:1) What level of involvement does God have in your life today? Since life is briev shouldn’t we live for God right now? Live one day at a time; don’t worry about tomorrow because worrying sucks the life out of today. You can plan for the future but live for today!

3. PUTTING OFF DOING GOOD. There are things you dream about doing one day…well today is that day! God ends James chapter 4 with “ 16But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.  17Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” Plans are great but actions that are led by God are impacting! Christianity is more than avoiding evil; you can still sin by doing nothing. Simply not sinning does not mean you are not sinning, when you know what is right and you don’t do it you are sinning.

Three are three things you can do with your life, waste it, spend it or invest it. What are you going to do?

Please take a moment and encourage and share with each other. What are you going to stop putting off and do today? Maybe your testimony will help someone else step out on faith and do great things for God.

His plan…The best plan

“Every plan God lays before you will have success when you follow His plan”

We had an amazing Sunday at Crosspointe. Worship was off the charts! I am so proud of our Worship team, they have been putting in time and pursuing excellence and you can see it. It was powerful and spirit led! There was one saved and a full alter at the invitation. Sunday evening we had Crosspointe 101, our membership class, and there were 4 active duty Marines who attended! I am excited to see what the Lord is going to be doing in the coming months. As you can see we are also changing the blog and will be updating our media during the service over the next few months. God is doing great things.

Judges 7:1-7

1 Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him rose early and encamped beside the well of Harod, so that the camp of the Midianites was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the valley.
2 And the LORD said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’ 3 Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once from Mount Gilead.’” And twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained.
4 But the LORD said to Gideon, “The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. Then it will be, that of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ the same shall go with you; and of whomever I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ the same shall not go.” 5 So he brought the people down to the water. And the LORD said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps from the water with his tongue, as a dog laps, you shall set apart by himself; likewise everyone who gets down on his knees to drink.” 6 And the number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water. 7 Then the LORD said to Gideon, “By the three hundred men who lapped I will save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, every man to his place.”

God’ does not need your talents He just needs you. Every plan God lays before you will have success when you follow His plan! The United States is known as a Christian nation; however the gospel light is not shining.

Here are the encouraging statistics:

In the United States there are 15,000 Christian radio stations and 300+ Christian television stations,  70+ million people who say they ate born again, 62% of Americans say they made a commitment to Jesus Christ, 96% of Americans are “believers of god” not all of whom believe in Satan and hell (Jesus spoke more about hell than heaven).

Here are the discouraging statistics:

The United States is the world’s biggest user of prisons, 1.1 million Americans are in prison, 1 million teens run away from home every year, suicide is the second leading cause of death for teens, the number 1 killer of children are their parents, 50 thousand drug addicted babies are born in California every year, this year 1.5 million babies will be aborted.

The country claims God is important but the actions say different. Christians as a whole seem to say one thing and do another. What God asked Gideon to do did not make sense at all, but he did it. God is not concerned with the size of the army, just as we should be concerned with quantity in our church we should be concerned with quality. Life is not what happens to you it is how you respond to what happens to you. How important is god to you? It’s easy to rely upon your talents but it is hard to turn away from that and turn toward Him.

The first thing God asked Gideon to do was…Excuse the Cowards.
We live in a world where God is as accessible to us as ever before. It is easy to get a Bible. We have access to the things of God. They were outnumbered 4 to 1 yet God said “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands “ (Judges 7:2) often times we fail to listen to the second part of that statement “, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me. God is not in the business of you saving yourself; He is in the business of saving you so you can give Him the glory. (Isaiah 42:8) God commands Gideon to do the impossible. Every time God does something for us, with us, or through us He wants us to say this is the lords doing (Psalm 118:23). The greatest victories are in what you behold not what you do. God does not have a measuring stick He just says trust me, yet so many times the glory that is Gods people claim for themselves. At best we can say God used us for greatness. (Judges 7:3) Gideon did something no other general has ever done. He let the timid and the scared go home. Too many Christians lack courage. We hold the fort instead of shouting “onward forward for the Lord”. We are going to fight sin not other Christians. We are going to be about the big things of God. We want to fight the sin and love the sinner. Cowards have no place in God’s army. And the greatest battle will not be fighting Satan it will be fighting yourself. (Deuteronomy 20:8) Cowards and critics are contagious but great faith in God is also contagious. God can use the frail but cannot use the fearful. Faith and fear can not dwell in the same heart.

The second thing God asked Gideon to do was…Exclude the Careless.
The army went from 32000 4:1 to 300. Gideon is walking his journey of faith. Gideon got on board with God’s plan. His plan the best plan. God gives a test. You might think lapping water is a little thing but a series of little things ass up to a whole lot. It’s the little things that will bring you down. And God is watching those little things. The two dangers in war are to overestimate the enemy (cowards) and the second is to underestimate the enemy (careless).

The third thing God asked Gideon to do was…Enlist the committed.
These me were the spiritual Marines that God wanted. Gideon’s army was down to 1% of what it was when he started. The lesson is simple. The master’s minority is better than the majority. God +1 is a majority. Quality not quantity.

With the Lord before us, Jesus beside us, the Spirit within us, and the Bible behind us there is no foe we cannot face.

Character Counts-Manage That Mouth

Tags

, , , , , ,

We had a great service this week at Crosspointe with several salvations! I am amazed at the power of the word of God!!!

James 3:1-11

1My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

2For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

3Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

4Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

5Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

7For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

8But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

9Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

We all have the natural ability to say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Words carry weight. James talks more the tongue than anyone else in the bible because the tongue tells what is in your heart (James 3:2)

WHY MUST I WATCH WHAT I SAY? People make excuses for that they say, it’s just words or it was only a joke but words have power.

MY TONGUE DIRECTS WHERE I GO. Those that don’t talk a lot go far in the workplace because people they can be trusted to set a right example. The tongue directs where you go. You can see where you will be in ten years by your conversations today. What do you talk about the most? Weak people talk about other people while great people talk about ideas. We shape our words and than our words shape us. (James 3:3) Think about the big horses at a horse race. Those giants are controlled by a 115 pound jockey, and he can control the horse by a small bit in its mouth.  James 3:4 says “Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.” It is important to note that James points out that it is a very small helm. Small things direct what we do. Our mouths have great power to lead us to great distraction. Your life is directed by what you say. Words keep us on course or throw us off course. You may not have a lot of words but the words you say are still important and can still be used for God. Destruction follows loose lips (Proverbs 13:3)

MY TONGUE CAN DESTROY WHAT I HAVE.

Many people say things without thinking about the consequences. (James 3:5) Hurtful things do not need to be said, even if they are true. If you really need to say something you should say it to the lord. What goes around comes around. God will right all in His time. Be careful what you say because it can destroy what you have, a careless camper can destroy a national park and a careless word can destroy what you have. Before criticizing someone remember that Jesus died for them too. God does not need our tongue to fight his battle but rather we should use it to be a light to the world. Fire and words under control can provide warmth and light. There are preachers, unfortunately, who use their pulpit to preach against things but it should not be that way. We should not use the tongue and the body and the mind that God gave us to destroy. Words create a chain reaction. James 3:6 says “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.” By the way in that passage he is talking about you. “People so often hear from the church what we are against…movies, music, people. What they need to hear is what we are for! Jesus, friend of sinners” (Mark Hall, Casting Crowns) Animals are tamable but the tongue is not (James 3:7-8) so what can you do? Give your tongue to God.

MY TONGUE DISPLAYS WHO I AM.

Your words tell a story. I want to be the kind of person that people want to be around and not because I try to please them but because I am genuine. Jesus did not set out to please men but they loved him. Tongue reveals character (James 3:9) God is very capable of fixing what is out of control but what is out of control is your tongue. The tongue is probably the greatest contradiction in the world. (James 3:11-12) Consider the source. Whatever is in the well comes out in the water and whatever is in your heart comes out in your tongue. The problem is not really the tongue it is the heart. The tongue betrays what you really feel inside. Time tells a story. (Matthew 12:24) you can only act for so long before your heart explodes and what is really on the inside comes out through your mouth. My tongue simply displays what I am. If you have a problem with your tongue it is much more serious than you think because you have a problem with your heart.

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION?

GET A NEW HEART. You can change! It will take discipline and control but you can change. (Ezekiel 18:31, 2 Corinthians 5:7) God specializes in heart transplants.  (Psalm 51:10)

ASK GOD FOR HELP EVERY DAY! You must give your mouth your tongue your lips to God. (Psalm 141:3) none of us are the experts that we think we are. Ask for help controlling you tongue get into God’s word ever day. Getting into the bible will change your tongue. God can fix whatever it is that you are worrying about right now.

THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK.

Just take a second to think ‘does what I am about to say need to be said’? (Proverbs 16:23) What does your tongue say about you? If we played back a tape of all your conversations from the past week what would be on it? Would you be embarrassed?

This world is dying to see something real and genuine and Christ like but that is not what Christians are displaying.  Manage that mouth so you can use it to glorify God.

Mark 4:35-5:21

Do you ever wonder why trials come into your life?  ‘Lord, I am doing what you want me to do, aren’t I?  Why is this happening to me?’  Do these questions sound familiar?  There are times in life when we are trying to do right and then out of nowhere a situation comes into our lives that takes us back.  It is easy for us to give up in the hard times, but how do we keep going?  How do we know that we are not alone?  In Mark 4:35 Jesus and His disciples were on a ship in the middle of a stormy sea.  The disciples were experienced fisherman and had been at sea many times before.  However, nothing was anything like the storm that they were in with Jesus.  Water was filling the boat and the men were fearful for their lives.  They looked around and wondered where Jesus was in all of this.  They were trying their best to save their own lives.  Finally the disciples went to find Jesus.  They found Jesus asleep, and they were amazed!  They woke up Jesus and asked Him, “Master, carest thou not that we perish?”  (Mk 4:38) And it was at that moment the Jesus arose and commanded the sea to be still and the wind and the waves to cease.  Wow! The men had done all they could do to save themselves, and it was the cry of Jesus children that calmed the storm.  There is no doubt that the storm was creating a great noise on the sea and that the distress of the disciples could have woken Jesus from His sleep.  But it wasn’t the storm that caused Jesus to respond.  It was the cry of His children.  Then the storm was ceased with just the voice of Christ.  Jesus had told the disciples that they would pass over to the other side, and yet when the storm came them men doubted they would live, and doubted they would make it across to sea.  Here are a few reminders for us from this story as we go through the storms of life.

1.Remember Jesus is on board.

There is a reason for all that comes into our lives.  There is nothing that comes into your life that has not been approved by the hand of God.  He doesn’t give us trials to see us fail or to have us suffer.  The Lord uses trials to bring us closer to Him.  He wants us to turn to Him through our storms and allow the trial to make us stronger.  Jesus asked His disciples, “Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?” (Mk 4:40) Don’t let your trials get in the way of your faith.  Trust God even when you can’t see the outcome.  He sees your circumstances and knows they may be difficult, but He wants to hear your voice calling out for Him before He comes to your side.  It is all about your relationship with Him.  God will use your trials to allow you to minister to others and to give Him glory.

The disciples called upon Jesus and He made a way for them to survive the storm.  Now, I am not suggesting that when you pray that God will take the storm away from you.  What I can say is that Jesus will give you a peace as you face your trials with grace and strength.

2.Remember someone is watching you.

The disciples needed to trust Jesus during their storm.  Jesus knew that there were other people who had been affected by the storm who were not on the ship.  Let’s think about the people on the shore.  They may have been affected by the storm and may have noticed the sudden stop.  When Jesus came to the shore, the maniac of Gadara immediately came to Him.  The maniac lived in the tombs off the shore, possibly overlooking the very sea that Jesus had calmed with His voice.  It is possible that the maniac had seen the storm, how it had suddenly stopped, and then seen the ship come into the shore.  The maniac knew that there was a man on that ship that had what he needed.  He went to Jesus and asked for healing.  And Jesus said “Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.” (Mk 5:8)  The man was healed by Jesus and was a new man.  People at work, in your family and those closest to you are watching you.  They want to see if your faith is real.  It is not difficult to have a positive spirit when nothing is going wrong.  But when it feels like life is falling apart at the seams, is when people are able to see Jesus in you.

3.Remember you never know what you faith will produce.

Jesus told the man to go back to his home and tell them of the great things that the Lord has done for him.  The maniac went back home and went to the 10 surrounding cities telling them of Jesus and what He had done for Him.  If we quit in the trail, who wins? Satan gets the victory in our lives when we give up.  Jesus will give you the strength to get through the trials to be a testimony for Him.  People see Christ when we persevere through the hard times.  God wants to use you.  People are hurting.  Everyone has a burden; the saved and the lost.  So God wants to use his children to be a light to a lost people who do not know Him.  There are people that God has placed in your life that He wants you to reach.  How sad would it be that we would give up the fight and not be able to share the love of Christ.   So try to take a step back in your life.  Our viewpoint is foggy when we are up close.  If you look at one small section of a large painting up close, it will most likely not look very good.  You may be confused by what the painting even is.  But when you take a few steps back you can see the picture clearly.  Trust that God sees the whole picture of your life.  We want to change the picture because we see it so closely and think we know better.  But if we step back and look at what we tried to “fix” we will see that the picture of our life is ugly when we got involved.  We think that life should be different because of our perspective.  Trust God.

Are you experiencing God or observing God?

Don’t live alone.  Stay faithful.  Sail the seas of life with Christ.

God’s 9-1-1

September 11, 2001 was a very difficult day for our country and on this, the 10 year anniversary we will remember. There were 2,986 people who lost their lives on that day, of those people 343 were firefighters and paramedics, 23 were NYPD officers, and 37 were Port Authority police officers. Please take a moment and say a prayer for first responders who run into danger as others run out. To show our appreciation to those first responders we are taking donations for Firehouse 3 in Poway, CA. If you would like to donate you can do so by going to http://www.considercrosspointe.org/give.html and selecting 9/11Fire Station 3.

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. (Matthew 14:22-23)

When you call 9-1-1 the first thing they ask you is ‘What is your emergency?’ when you are faced with difficulties in life you can make the same call to God. I am going to give you several ways you can place that call by how you react.

I. HAVE FAITH-NOT FEAR. Faith and fear cannot reside in the same heart. Fear brings on anxiety and stress. When you allow your heart to be filled with fear you are pushing out faith.

And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. (Genesis 9:11)

Genesis 9:11 contains a promise of never again having a worldwide flood. God tells us that we have a choice, we can rely on Him. When fear is in your mind do you believe God can come through? Faith is not something you say you have, it is something you show you have by how you react to challenges.

II. PRAY-DON’T PANIC. When panic takes over prayer ceases. Just like faith and fear, prayer and panic cannot reside in the same heart.

And thou didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.(Nehemiah 9:11)

You have not because you ask not. God will help you if you call on Him. When the people without God are panicking the people with God should  be praying.

Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not. (Job 9:11)

Job didn’t see God in the lowest times but he knew He was there. God knows the path ahead of you, He has laid it out and can see further than you can, so do not be afraid when you are following His path.

If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things? (1 Corinthians 9:11)

Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. (2 Corinthians 9:11)

Things are just things and they will pass away, but if we have Christ we are rich.

III. BELIEVE GOD-DON’T BLAME HIM. People are excellent at blame. From the very beginning Adam blamed God and Eve blamed the serpent. You were given free will and you can determine to blame or to rise above. Don’t blame God; thank Him for what you have. Next time you are going to blame give thanks.

I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. (Ecclesiastes 9:11)

We live in a sin cursed world and we are sinners, because of that bad things happen.

Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him. (Daniel 9:11)

Don’t blame God, believe God.

And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the LORD gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant. (Deuteronomy 9:11)

God is not responsible for our circumstances but He wants to help us through them.

He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. (John 9:11)

If we follow God’s path he will provide for us but the bible says if we follow our own path it will not end well.

IV. RESPOND-DON’T RUN.

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? (Matthew 9:11)

Jesus went where he was needed.  Do you yield to God, or do you yield to yourself?

And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. (Luke 9:11)

If you run from God you will not find healing.

Sing praises to the LORD, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings. (Psalm 9:11)

The greatest volume you will have is not when you are shouting, but when your actions point toward Him.  The world needs to see what we believe.

V. BE ASSURED-NOT ANGRY. God always does the right thing. In the 17 years I have been saved He has never let me down. I can promise you that no matter what comes God’s 9-1-1 will be ready.

Character Counts-Got Faith?

Tags

Jesus cannot come into your life without man seeing a change. Jesus changed me and I want to share it with everyone I can. I have works out of love. Simply believing there is a God does not grant you salvation but beginning a relationship with Christ saves you. Salvation motivates you into action. You cannot have a relationship with Christ and not want to serve him.  (James 2:14-26

1. Real faith is not just something you say. (Titus 3:5, Matthew 7:21-23)

God does not look at my works and say “hip hip hooray” he is not impressed with what you do but by your yielding to Him. Pray like it depends on God but work like it depends on you. I can call faith into question when works do not follow. Motive is important. It is not what you do but why you do it. God is not impressed by your actions if you do them to impress men. Character is what you do when nobody is looking and Character counts!

2. Real faith is not just something you feel. (James 2:16, John 3:14, James 2:17)

People confuse emotions with faith. Faith must go deeper than your feelings. Feelings can change but salvation does not. Facts dictate salvation not feelings. Real faith is generous, if you are saved and you are not generous are you really saved?

3. Real faith is not just something you think. (James 2:18)

Work not to impress men but to please God. It is not just something you think. How do you know if someone really has faith? Results. Time tells a story. What is the story time will tell of your faith? If you claim to be a Christian than you need to prove it by your actions. You are not saved by your actions. You are not saved by your works but if you are saved it will show in your works.

4. Real faith is not just something you believe. (2 Corinthians 5:17, James 2:19, 2 Corinthians 13:5)

Real faith does not give up. It is not just something you believe. When God moves in it is deeper than saying I believe. If you were arrested for being a Christian would there be enough evidence to convict you? Real faith always produces a changed life. Satan knows there is a God, faith is not just believing. Real faith is active not passive. It goes way beyond just something you believe. Works don’t deliver salvation, works demonstrate salvation.

5. Real faith is something you do. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
